Scottish Premier League Teams

Following the example of the English Premier League, Scotland’s top flight decided to separate from the Scottish Football League which had been at its helm since the 1890s.The changes kicked in at the beginning of the 1998/99 season.

The league now consists of 12 teams, playing each other four times a season, two at home and two away.

More people in Scotland watch their own domestic top league – which is ranked 16 in the worldwide FIFA rankings overall – than any other nation in Europe.

A total of 18 clubs have competed in the SPL since its inauguration but the dominance of Glasgow’s main clubs has seen the trophy only ever return to Ibrox or Parkhead.

In recent years Heart of Midlothian, Aberdeen and Hibernian have mounted a sizeable challenge to the Old Firm’s dominance so if you want to grab your shirt and dream of what could be for season 2010/11, www.footballs.co.uk will bring you the best deals from around the web through our price comparison service.
